625 ILCS 5/12-503(a) generally prohibits windshield tint except nonreflective film along the uppermost six inches.
Front side windows depend on rear treatment
Subsection (a-5)(2) permits at least 35% light transmission on the front sides only when no treated rear window admits less than 35%. Subsection (a-5)(1) permits at least 50% front when no treated rear window admits less than 30%. Factory-installed smoked rear glass is addressed separately by subsection (a-5)(4), which permits at least 50% on the front sides. The specified 5% enforcement variance is not a film-selection target. A rear treatment described in (b) and (b-5) requires compliant side mirrors.
